Kralan Village (the snack of sticky rice):
The delicious Southeast Asian snack of sticky rice, red bean, sugar and coconut milk sealed in a short length of bamboo and cooked over coals. Legend has it that the soldiers of the Angkor kings would take Kralan on their journeys for rations, and it is popular as an offering to monks on their alms rounds or at festivals and celebrations. The dish is famous all over the Kingdom and Cambodians argue endlessly about which village makes the tastiest Kralan.
Boat trip (Kampong Khleang stilt-houses and fishing village):
Kampong Khleang village is a characterful, natural, and charming village where the bulk of the locals draw their livelihood from the great Tonle Sap lake and its tributaries.
This unusual sight, and the fascinating way of life of the local people, attracts a lot of tourists, especially during the rainy season. There are tour boats readily available for hire that can take you along the waterways admiring the stilted houses and visiting pagodas, also, heading out onto the Tonle Sap to visit the floating villages and the daily life.
Naga Bridge (Spean Praptos – Kampong Kdei Bridge):
Spean Praptos is on the road from Angkor to Phnom Penh capital city, used to be the longest corbeled stone-arch bridge in the world, with more than twenty narrow arches spanning 285 ft (87m). The bridge was built in the 12th century during the reign of King Jayavarman VII. It is one of the few Khmer empire era bridges to have survived to the modern day.
Sambor Prei Kuk Group:
It is a wonderous ancient city/temple complex area dating to the 6-7th century with a staggering 141 recorded temple sites and a large habitation area with complex waterworks in a zone that covers near to 13 sq km (5 sq miles). Known in ancient times as Ishanapura, it is the capital of the Chenla Kingdom that succeded the prior Funan era of the 1st to early 6th century. In 2017, it was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Prasat Kuh Nokor:
The temple was built in 10th -11th century by the king Suryavarman I (1002-1050). It is part of the pagoda Wat Kuh Nokor, on a square shaped courtyard consisting of laterite and sandstone facing east. The throne is also square decorated by lotus flowers with several male statues. One of the statues is known to locals as the ‘Neak Ta Bark Kor’.
Skun Market or Spider Village:
Skun market has become a world famous tourist attraction, due to the deep fried spider snacks that are so popular here. Among all the fruit and vegetable stands, you’ll see women carrying large trays, full of fried and spiced spiders, some the size of a grown man’s palm, the fried spiders of Skun Market are considered delicacies.
